(#5) Ade Banjoko, Maryam El-Shaboury, Allison Lang

What do creatives value in themselves?

We’re asking established industry experts and upcoming talent from all over the world to define what they value in themselves – in the hope that it can be encouraging or provide the spark to look inward, into the practices of those who may read. This series will last throughout 2022.

Three more wonderful people; the fifth edition of Creative Values! Which means, more insight from established industry experts. Ade Banjoko is the first, he works on sound production for Relax and Bake FM and has since started working on design. Secondly, we have Cairo-based Maryam El-Shaboury, a digital artist and graphic designer with a growing portfolio of works to present and show-off. Finally, we have film producer Allison Lang! Allison is a leading expert in the industry having worked with the likes of Nike and Vogue Australia.

"Being a person that thinks outside of the box, in an alternative way, approaching creativity with the aim of pushing boundaries is what I value most about myself. It's also what I love about people in general, our difference in backgrounds, beliefs, talents, perspective, our uniqueness (if that's even a word lol). Embracing this diversity is what I believe contributes towards innovative creativity and something we try to express through our radio shows.”

“What I value about myself is my ability to keep going.

At the risk of sounding like an IG life coach, I will say that there have been countless times in my life when I wanted to completely and utterly give up. I'm not sure what possessed me to keep going, maybe it was simply out of spite at all the things and people that could've stopped me, or maybe resilience is a basic human instinct. All I know is I'm grateful for whatever force that brought me to this day”
