You rarely ever hear the voices of non-binary individuals or Black women, within the podcasting world — however, it doesn’t mean that there aren’t any at all. gal-dem’s own podcast series, Growing up with gal-dem has led them to join Spotify, on the Creator’s Table and their newest space, SoundUp. A resource for new and ambitious podcasters. The coolest part of it, is this; you don’t need any experience. Due to the global pandemic, and Spotify’s global effect on the world — with millions and millions of listeners — the initiative expands on their previous efforts within a wider scope.
There’s two waves to SoundUp; a virtual training programme set to take place this year, and an “in-person week-long immersive experience in 2021”. The virtual programme is a hand-pick of 20 attendees, receiving a workshop to podcasting — learning the ins and outs behind the technicalities, storytelling and craft. Plus, it’s a gateway towards live courses, and assignments to build the applicants skillset. From 20, 10 will then go forward, equipped with the right equipment, into 2021.
The Key Info:
It’ll take place virtually, from the 12th of October to the 6th of November. Open to UK and Ireland residents, who self-identity as a Black women, or non-binary. Must be over 18. It’s totally free.
