10.08.20 — words by Jaheed Hussain
Over a year ago on the 8th of August 2019, I decided to start something new — ‘In-print’. A few days before, I stepped into one of the best booksellers in Manchester, Magma, for anyone who wants to know & I read gal-dem’s latest book. It’s featured as the first in this list and it rekindled my love for words. Being a huge fan of books, (novels, literature, graphic design-y texts, creative publications, anything with words, really) Fuse then ended up showcasing 40 different publications over the course of seven-ish months on Instagram. Here’s the first 10 picked out from the bunch. All are incredibly rich of diverse contributions, work, stories, essays & purpose. Keep an ear out for the rest to be featured soon too but, for now read on! Hopefully you’ll find something new to lay your eyes upon.
1. I Will Not Be Erased: Our Stories about growing up as people of colour, by gal-dem
A very relatable, introspective look at coming-of-age in both the creative and not-so-creative world. Filled with gal-dem's most talented writers, their thoughts, poems and essays. It's the first in our feature and a first in important issues; race, gender, activism and loads more.
2. Yes & No Magazine: Issue 02:04 — Threshold
A quarterly magazine covering arts, culture & progress featuring insightful interviews. For us, issue 02:04 is something important. An issue depicting refugees and the exhausting, dangerous journey many take globally, in solidarity and looking to highlight the issue through print.

3. Yellowzine: Issue 3 — The Conscious Issue
Yellowzine centralises the work of Afro/Caribbean and Asian visual artists within the UK. Issue 3 is no different, with themes of environmentalism, gender and feminism explored — all alongside an understanding of consciousness in the arts. Overwhelmed with an awareness for the context its place is in.
4. Made In Japan by Victionary
A collective showcase of the most exciting and innovative design from Japan. Showing off examples of Japanese culture mixed with a touch of traditional design — putting a spotlight on Asian influences.
